Waste Management sponsors Think Green art contest
With just a single sheet of paper, a few art supplies and their imaginations, 130 Martin County students created poster art for Waste Management’s annual Think Green contest. This year’s first-place winner is Alicia Kuczynski.
Her award-winning art will be displayed throughout Martin County as an enlarged replica of her poster makes its way around town on the side of a Waste Management truck. Mary Dawson, executive director of Sustaining Community Lands, Martin County School Board Member Michael Busha and local artist
Brenda Leigh judged the entries on creativity, neatness, skill level and adherence to the rules.
In addition to the truck art, Alicia also won $300 for her school, a T-shirt with her poster on it, and an ice-cream party for her entire class — all courtesy of Waste Management.
The second place contest winner is seventh-grader Sofia Barone, of Stuart Middle School, and third-place winner is Edwin James Avellanda, an Indiantown Middle School student. Both students’ classes also enjoyed ice cream parties and their schools received $200 and $100 checks respectively.
