The Hobe Sound Strikers U9/10 Boys Travel Team topped off a successful season during the March 22 weekend by winning the Palm Beach Soccer League u10 Tournament in Delray Beach. The team was led to a 4-0 victory over Wellington on Saturday’s first game with three goals by Matt Davis and another by Scot Wood. The team’s leading defenders, Dominique Jadusingh, Jeremy Earle, Jack Ungerland and the goalie Zack Zinderman posted a shutout, allowing no goals to the Wellington Wave.

In the Saturday evening game, Hobe Sound defeated the Elite Soccer Academy of Lake Worth 5-4 in a back-and-forth battle. Scot Wood led all scorers with 3 goals and Matt Davis added another 2 goals. With two wins, the Strikers clinched a spot in the Finals Sunday night, but would have to play Delray Beach in pool play in the afternoon, and then face them again on Sunday night in the championship game.

The Strikers got off to a slow start and lost the afternoon game to Delray Beach 3-1. The lone goal of
the game was scored by Scot Wood on a penalty kick. The Strikers took the number-two seed into the
championship game, and Delray Beach took the number-one seed .

Coach Randy Earle said he knew that the boys were “going to be motivated” for the final game, since they had come in second place to Delray during the regular season last year and came in second place to Elite Soccer Academy in the regular season this year.

Hobe Sound gave up a quick goal in the first five minutes, but then scored 5 goals and only gave up one more to win the Championship game 5-2. Scot Wood scored 4 goals, and Trevor Natalie added a goal. Throughout the tournament, the team received solid midfield play from Sasha Fiumara, Armondo Niz, Gabe Robert and Shane DeVriend. Winning the U10 Palm Beach League Tournament is quite an accomplishment for a team that is primarily made up of U9 players, playing against U10 competition.

The U9/10 Strikers are quickly earning a reputation as one of the premier teams in the Palm Beach/
Martin County area. They have finished runner-up the past two years in the Palm Beach League and
won both tournaments they entered this year. The Strikers won the 2010 Indian River Soccer Shootout at the beginning of the season before capping off the season with the Palm Beach tournament win. For more information on Hobe Sound Soccer, visit www.hobesoundsoccer.com.
